Hearings

To help with the spread of policy ideas from country to country, the e-Parliament organises small gatherings of legislators where such policy ideas are discussed.

At these international parliamentary ‘hearings’, between 15 and 30 legislators gather for two days to listen to presentations from experts in a particular field. After questioning the experts, they discuss the issues and commit to taking specific actions.

The whole group need not agree on these policy objectives. Each MP can decide on what is most appropriate for their own country – before going home to advance this policy in their own parliament. The e-Parliament process therefore does not require international consensus.

In order to cut down on air-travel, we plan in the future to carry out some of these hearings using video-conferencing.
