British Politicians interviewed for BBC programme on the Supergrid
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 1 2009
Greg Clark, Conservative Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Simon Hughes, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary for Energy and Climate Change, and Jim Mather, Scottish Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism were all interviewed for the recent BBC Radio 4 Costing the Earth programme on the Supergrid.
The programme was broadcast throughout the UK on September 21 and 24 and also featured an interview with the e-Parliament’s Secretary-General Nicholas Dunlop, Dr Gregor Czisch of the University of Kassel and Antonella Battaglini of the Potsdam Institute.
Both Dr. Czisch and Ms Battaglini have worked alongside the e-Parliament. Ms Battaglini appeared with Nicholas Dunlop at a side-event at the UN Conference of Parties in Potsdam in December last year. The Potsdam Institute, like the e-Parliament, has been funded by the European Climate Foundation to promote the supergrid in Europe.
Dr. Czisch addressed legislators at our hearing following that UN Conference, explaining his ideas that wind energy could power the whole of Europe without the need to use solar energy at all - if wind power stations and existing hydro lakes were linked by a network of high voltage direct current (HVDC) cables.
Dunlop also talked about the Supergrid on the Forum discussion programme on BBC World Service radio on October 4/5.
